HSL - Hockey Super League

Manitoba's First HSL Program Announced - Vipers Hockey Academy

Wednesday, March 25, 2026

The Hockey Super League is pleased to welcome the Vipers Hockey Academy from Manitoba as the newest franchise joining our 10th anniversary season. The Vipers will compete in the 2017 Major division, adding our first ever high-end Manitoba-based option for families seeking a competitive, development-driven environment.

Strengthening Manitoba’s presence

With the addition of the Vipers Hockey Academy, Manitoba gains their first ever dedicated program in the HSL pathway, further deepening the league’s Prairie footprint. The Vipers’ entry into the 2017 Major division will immediately elevate competition and create new rivalries with existing programs across Western Canada.

Led by Brandon Ellement

The Vipers Hockey Academy is led by Brandon Ellement, a lifelong Winnipeg product with a deep background in high-level hockey. Ellement has competed in elite environments at home and abroad, including representing Canada on the international stage in bandy, where he has played professionally in Europe and appeared in multiple world championships. That experience, combined with years spent in competitive Canadian junior and senior circuits, informs his on-ice teaching and emphasis on pace, detail, and preparation. Ellement is also a certified Power Edge Pro instructor, and is excited to utilize that training with the Vipers organization.

"I'm extremely excited to represent the Vipers Hockey Academy in partnering with the HSL to bring a development-focused minor hockey option for young hockey players and their families in Manitoba. Our focus will be on building a program that grows with our players year over year, with a longer-term focus. Providing access for young Manitobans to competitive games, focused skill development, and a structured pathway forward is something I'm truly passionate about. Manitoba has incredible hockey talent, and I'm committed to providing these kids the environment, coaching, and resources they need to reach their full potential for years to come." An excited Ellement adds.

A program built on development

The Vipers Hockey Academy is designed to give young athletes access to consistent, high-tempo practices and meaningful game reps against top competition. The program focuses on skating, puck skills, game awareness, and compete level, with an eye toward preparing players for the next step in their hockey journey—whether that is academy hockey, junior, or beyond.

Looking ahead to the 2017 Major season

As the HSL opens its 10th anniversary campaign, the Vipers Hockey Academy’s arrival in the 2017 Major division adds another committed, development-minded program to our league. We look forward to seeing the Vipers take the ice, establish their identity, and help shape the next generation of Manitoba talent within the Hockey Super League.
