Hockey Super League Welcomes First American Franchise: Young Kings Colorado

Feb. 13, 2025

The Hockey Super League (HSL) is thrilled to announce the addition of its first-ever American franchise for the 2025-26 season. Based in the Denver area, Young Kings Colorado will compete in the 2014, 2016, and 2017 age groups, with the potential for further expansion in early spring.

As a KSL development program with a strong history of participation in independent hockey, Young Kings Colorado brings a wealth of experience and dedication to player development. The franchise is led by a team of experienced coaches and elite instructors in the Denver area, ensuring that their athletes receive world-class training and preparation for the next level of competition.

“We are proud to welcome Young Kings Colorado as our first American franchise,” said Tyler Wowk, HSL Commissioner. “Their commitment to independent hockey and player development aligns perfectly with the HSL’s mission. We’re excited to see their impact within the league as they bring their expertise and passion to our community.”

Co-owned by Maddy Acorn, a former female college hockey player, Young Kings Colorado is poised to make an immediate impact in the HSL. Under Acorn’s leadership, the program is committed to fostering talent and creating opportunities for athletes to compete at an elite level, which is something not accessible for athletes at this age in their region.

To ensure meaningful competition, Young Kings Colorado has committed to traveling to Alberta to compete with HSL teams from Western Canada. The league will work closely with the franchise to craft a feasible schedule, allowing them to play as many games as possible during each trip to Alberta.

“We are excited to join the HSL and bring our program to the next level,” said Maddy Acorn. “This partnership provides our athletes with an unparalleled opportunity to develop, compete, and grow. We can’t wait to start this journey and create lasting memories with our players and families.”

As preparations for the 2025-26 season continue, more details about schedules and team developments will be announced. The HSL is proud to lead the charge in independent hockey, building connections and advancing the sport across North America.
