Weekend Recap - Oct 15-17, 2021

Oct. 18, 2021

The Hockey Super League featured a showcase of the U15 Prep Major Division hosted at Planet Ice Delta just outside Vancouver, BC this past weekend. There were 11 total games played over the three day showcase event.

Stars Hockey Academy (1-2)

The Stars started off their weekend with a loss against the top team in the division (SPHA Grey), Owen Robinson scored the lone goal for the Stars in the contest. Their 2nd game was a spirited battle with the Vancouver Golden Panthers, after being down 5-1 going into the third they clawed back with 2 quick goals from Amjot Dhillon and Quinn Bouchard, but were unable to complete the comeback. Kaden Wilkins (2G - 2A) and Cayden Goossen (1G-2A) led the way offensively in a Stars victory over the Sharpshooter Hockey Academy finishing their weekend off with a win. Goaltenders Brandon Williams (0 GA) and Carsen Washburn (3 GA) split the duties in the victory over the Sharpshooters.

Saints Pro Hockey Academy Grey (3-0)

SPHA Grey cruised through the competition with a balanced attack, defeating the Stars Academy, Sharphooters and Fraser Valley respectively. Trystyn Sidor (6G - 1A) and Ashton Lee (2G - 6A) led the way offensively and Adam Kisilevich allowed just 2 GA in 3 games played over the weekend.

Capital City Knights (2-0-1)

The Knights jumped out to lead early against Fraser Valley and kept the pace high throughout, Chimera and Eastman both had a pair of goals in the victory. The Knights second game was decided in the final 3 minutes of the game, with Eastman playing hero in a hard fought match against the Vancouver Golden Panthers. In the final game of the weekend for the Knights they held a 2 goal lead thanks to Chimera (1G-1A), but were unable to preserve it as the Sharphooters tied it late in the game to end the game in a 2-2 deadlock.

Fraser Valley Sturgeon (0-3)

The Sturgeon faced three strong Alberta opponents this weekend. Justice Comeau (1G-1A) led the Sturgeon offensively. Lucas Szulc and Ethan Campbell split the games this weekend between the pipes. These were the first three games of the year for Fraser Valley while their competition this weekend all had a minimum of 6 GP leading in to the showcase.

Saints Pro Academy Blue (3-0)

SPHA Blue sliced through their opponents this weekend, defeating Sharpshooters, Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Golden Panthers scoring early in all 3 games. Cole Connolly (4G-6A) was very productive throughout the weekend while Jason Adams (5G-2A) led the team in goals. Goaltenders Renna Trembecky and Anden Latimer combined for a solid 5 GA in three games.

Vancouver Golden Panthers (1-2)

The Golden Panthers were in multiple tight contests throughout the weekend. They held on for a victory against the Stars before dropping a game late to the Knights. They rounded out their weekend with a hard-fought game against SPHA Blue, but came up just short. Sorash Ramlal (2G-2A) lead the Panthers offensively with 4 points throughout the weekend. Gurshan Sarao picked up the win in net to start the year in their first 3 games of league play.

Sharpshooter Academy (0-3-1)

The Sharpshooters had their work cut out for them as they played 4 times in 3 days, starting with SPHA Blue, SPHA Grey, Stars and finishing with a tie versus the Knights. The hardworking team continued to get stronger throughout the weekend, regardless of the extra competition. Mason Russell (3G-1A) and Billy MacDonald (1G-2A) led the team offensively. These 4 games were their first to start the year.

The Hockey Super League is back in action this weekend, with their busiest weekend in league history. Boasting 101 games across 8 divisions taking place all over Western Canada. The HSL would like to wish all the teams competing this weekend safe travels and the best of luck!
