Weekend Recap - Oct 29-30, 2021

Nov. 01, 2021

This weekend’s Hockey Super League action featured 41 games across all divisions, including six games in the U17 Prep Division in Morinville, Alberta. The Saints Pro Hockey Academy and Red Wings Hockey Academy both had a successful weekend, leaving Morinville with two victories apiece.

SAINTS PRO HOCKEY ACADEMY (2-0-0)

The Saints started the weekend with a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Crusaders, with Joshua Polak, Evan Heimer and Hunter Harringa leading the way with one goal and one assist each. Ty Radke was stellar between the pipes, stopping 24 of 26 shots he faced.

In their second game on Sunday afternoon, Polak continued with the hot hand, recording a hat trick while Brae Nowoczin added two goals and an assist in a 9-4 win over the Crusaders.

RED WINGS HOCKEY ACADEMY (2-0-0)

The Red Wings Hockey Academy came into Morinville meaning business and walked away with two wins including a lopsided 12-2 win over AMP Hockey Academy on Saturday. Carter Hogman led the way with five points (1G, 4A) while Dylan Konschuh (2G, 2A), Jordan Gagnon (2G, 2A) and Almas Senic (1G, 3A) each had four points in the rout.

Earlier on Saturday the same teams faced off with the Red Wings edging AMP by a final score of 4-2. Hogman started the weekend with a two-goal performance, while goaltender Sebastien Culham stopped 22 of 24 shots he faced for the win.

EAGLES HOCKEY ACADEMY (1-1-0)

The Eagles Hockey Academy walked away with a split this past weekend, defeating the Calgary Crusaders in the weekend opener 7-2 and then dropping a close 4-3 decision to the Crusaders on Saturday.

In their first game on Friday night, Keegan Pedersen and Caden Cygan each tallied two goals and an assist, while Ryker MacPherson also chipped in with three points (0-3-3).

The Eagles erased an early two goal deficit in game two but couldn’t hold off a strong Crusaders team. Cygan lit the lamp again, while Ryder Pirnak and Austin Boser also had goals in the loss.

CALGARY CRUSADERS (1-3-0)

The Calgary Crusaders were the busiest team this past weekend, grabbing one victory in their four games played. Game one on Friday night saw the Crusaders outplayed in a 7-2 loss to the Eagles Hockey Academy. Cooper Barclay and Carson Wright scored for the Crusaders with Isaac Hallam (29/34) and Declan Hall (10/12) splitting the duties in net.

The Crusaders ran into a good Saints Pro Hockey Academy team in their second game, dropping a close 4-2 decision. Serres Sadler and Carson Stone had the Crusaders out to an early 2-0 lead, however the Saints responded in the second period and went on to the victory.

Game three saw the Crusaders hit the win column with a back and forth 4-3 win over the Eagles Hockey Academy. Grayson Wyllie (2G, 0A) and Caelum Eastman (0G, 2A) each had two points while Declan Hall made 33 saves for the win.

The Crusaders wrapped up their weekend with a tough rematch with the Saints Pro Hockey Academy, dropping a 9-4 decision. The Crusaders had goals from Wright, Eastman, Adam Hussein and Peter Godley.

AMP HOCKEY ACADEMY (0-2-0)

The AMP Hockey Academy started the weekend with a close 4-2 loss to the Red Wings Hockey Academy. Carter Thorne had both tallies for AMP while Tyler Keyes was solid between the pipes, stopping 40 of 44 shots he faced.

Game two was a different story for AMP, as they were on the wrong side of a 12-2 lopsided Red Wings win. Mahim Sood and Jacob Rota were the lone goal scorers for AMP.
