Former HSL Athlete, Landon Dupont Selected 1st Overall in the WHL Draft Along with 55 Other Alumni!

Yesterday marked a monumental day for the Hockey Super League (HSL), filled with significant firsts and remarkable achievements. Leading the pack was Landon DuPont, the first overall selection of the 2024 WHL Draft, proudly hailing from the Spartan Academy in Calgary. Notably, the draft's first four selections were all esteemed HSL Alumni: Brock Cripps from Fraser Valley Sturgeon (2nd - Prince Albert), Aden Bouchard from Spartan Academy (3rd - Tri-City), and Ben Harvey from Caps Hockey (4th - Prince Albert).

DuPont's exceptional status, a distinction previously held only by Connor Bedard in 2020, grants him full-time membership with the Everett Silvertips at just 15 years old. This season, he'll join the ranks of the Silvertips, poised to make his mark on the ice. Alongside DuPont, an impressive total of 55 other HSL Alumni received nods in this year's WHL draft. With a whopping 56 selections made yesterday, the tally of current and former HSL athletes drafted into the WHL and WHL US Priority Draft reaches a remarkable 145, underscoring the league's profound impact in just seven years.

Noteworthy statistics from the draft showcase the significant presence of HSL Alumni:

• 57% of Alberta athletes chosen (53 out of 93) were HSL Alumni.
• An impressive 89% (8 out of 9) of Alberta-born athletes in the first round were HSL Alumni.
• HSL Alumni accounted for 45% (10 out of 22) of the first round selections.
• A total of 77 athletes selected in the draft have ties to HSL or HPL.
