Edmonton, Alberta - July 5, 2024 - The Hockey Super League (HSL) is thrilled to announce its expansion into the vibrant hockey community of Regina, Saskatchewan for the 2024-25 season. This exciting development marks the second HSL program based in Saskatchewan, joining the highly successful South Sask Academy based out of Moose Jaw.
Leading this new initiative is Mike Reich, a seasoned hockey veteran with an impressive background in the sport. Reich's extensive experience includes playing in the Western Hockey League (WHL) and graduating to Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) hockey at St. Thomas University, prior to playing professionally in the ECHL. His leadership and dedication to the development of young athletes will be invaluable as he guides the new Regina teams in the 2015 Major and 2017 Major divisions.
"We are incredibly excited to bring the HSL experience to Regina," said Mike Reich. "This expansion provides young athletes in the area with an opportunity to continue to develop their skills and compete in a borderless environment against other top teams across Western Canada. We are committed to delivering top-tier hockey and fostering the growth of our players both on and off the ice."
With the assistance of Mike and his relationships, the HSL has secured the prestigious Brandt Centre, home of the WHL's Regina Pats, as the venue for its showcases in Regina. This iconic arena will serve as the backdrop for high-energy games and thrilling showcases, providing an unparalleled experience for players and fans alike.
"The Brandt Centre is a world-class facility, and we are delighted to host our home showcases here," said Reich. "This venue is synonymous with hockey excellence, and it will undoubtedly elevate the experience for everyone involved."
“We welcome the new families in Regina to the HSL and this brings another exciting layer of cross - province competition for all our athletes and families,” states HSL Commissioner, Tyler Wowk. “We feel we have found the perfect partner in Mike and this partnership will continue to fortify and expand future relationships in Saskatchewan.”
As the HSL continues to grow, the expansion into Regina underscores its commitment to providing exceptional opportunities for young hockey players across Western Canada. The league's focus on development, competition, and sportsmanship ensures that every participant can thrive and reach their full potential.
