In a thrilling, penalty-filled contest, the Stars Hockey Academy skated to an 8-5 victory over the Saints Pro Hockey Academy in a game defined by special teams and offensive firepower. The tone was set early, with Natasha Reid of the Stars opening the scoring on the power play just 29 seconds into the game, assisted by Zachary Eastland. The Saints responded with two quick goals from Mason Smith and Ivan Rawluk to briefly take a lead, but the Stars answered back with two of their own before the period ended, including a power-play marker from Cooper Ford and a late equalizer from Lukas Michalski, sending the teams to the intermission locked at 3-3.
The second period saw the offenses continue to trade blows. Ivan Rawluk netted his second of the game for the Saints, but Grayson Nichols responded for the Stars to keep the game tied heading into the final frame. The third period, however, belonged to the visitors. Jamal Caseley gave the Saints a brief lead with a power-play goal, but the Stars exploded for four unanswered goals to seal the victory. Gabriel L'Heureux tied the game, and then Blayke Heisler took over, scoring the game-winning goal and adding an empty-netter in the final seconds. A late power-play goal from Mickaila Kawula served as the final nail in the coffin for the surging Stars.
Despite the loss, Ivan Rawluk was a standout for the Saints, finishing with two goals and an assist. For the Stars, Blayke Heisler’s clutch third-period performance was the difference, while Cooper Ford, Gabriel L'Heureux, and Zachary Eastland each tallied multiple points. The game was a chippy one, with a combined 13 penalties called, but the Stars' ability to capitalize on their chances, especially in the decisive third period, proved to be the ultimate key to their victory.
