The MOB Hockey squad weathered a storm of penalties and a late Spartan surge to claim a hard-fought 4-2 victory in Hockey Super League action. The game opened with a physical edge, as both teams combined for five minor penalties in the first period. Spartan Hockey Academy capitalized on the early chaos, with Colby Lane finding the net at the 6:06 mark, assisted by Jack Purdy, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. MOB’s goaltender, Lennon Andrews, was tested early but settled in, while his counterpart, Eli Robinson, turned away all ten first-period shots to preserve the Spartan advantage.
The middle frame saw the game’s momentum swing dramatically. Despite taking three more penalties, MOB Hockey found their special teams rhythm. First, Ryker Philpott struck shorthanded at 2:11, assisted by Adam McMillan, to tie the game. Then, with just 34 seconds left in the period, Mason Macdonnell converted on the power play, with Jabriel Sharma and McMillan picking up the helpers, to send MOB into the intermission with a 2-1 lead. The period ended in a flurry of roughing minors, highlighting the game’s escalating intensity.
Spartan Hockey Academy refused to go quietly, mounting a fierce third-period push that yielded 15 shots. Hunter Evaskevich brought them level on the power play just 1:22 into the period, with assists from Liam Evely and Lucas Conrad. However, MOB’s Ryker Philpott emerged as the hero of the night. He answered with the game-winning goal at 11:57, completing a stellar three-point night for setup man Adam McMillan. Philpott then sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute, securing a hat-trick and a 4-2 final. Despite being outshot 26-29, MOB’s timely scoring and a resilient 60-minute effort from goaltender Lennon Andrews, who stopped 24 of 26 shots, proved decisive in a gritty, penalty-filled contest.
