The Spartan Hockey Academy 14M team used a relentless offensive attack and timely scoring to secure a 5-3 victory over Saints Pro Hockey Academy in a penalty-filled contest. The home Spartans set the tone early, capitalizing on a power play opportunity just moments into the game. With Saints' Benjamin McGrath in the box for boarding, Finn Inglis, wearing number 19, opened the scoring at 15:23 of the first period, assisted by Charlie Couldwell and Colby Lane. The Spartans doubled their lead in the final minute of the period when Jack Purdy found the net, with helpers from Logan Boyd and Hunter Evaskevich, giving them a commanding 2-0 lead after outshooting the Saints 10-5.
The second period saw the Spartans extend their lead further. Hunter Evaskevich, number 22, scored an even-strength goal midway through the frame, with Dominic Nimchuk and the ever-involved Colby Lane picking up assists. The Saints finally broke through on Spartan goalie Quinten Alessio when Mason Smith scored at 6:31, assisted by Liam Shoquist, to make it 3-1. The period was marred by penalties, including infractions to Spartan Logan Boyd and Saints' Wilhelm Hartmann and Ivan Rawluk, as the physicality ramped up. The Spartans continued to dominate the shot count, holding a 24-11 advantage through two periods.
Saints Pro Hockey Academy made a thrilling push in the third period. Just 53 seconds in, on a power play resulting from a penalty to Spartan Logan Boyd, Smith Love buried a goal assisted by Cameron Starrett and Ivan Rawluk to cut the deficit to one. The momentum was short-lived, however, as Spartan Liam Evely, number 16, responded with a crucial even-strength goal at 14:43, assisted again by Charlie Couldwell and Colby Lane, to restore the two-goal cushion. Saints' Ivan Rawluk answered just over a minute later to bring the score to 4-3, setting up a tense finale. The Spartans' penalty kill was tested late, facing a Saints power play and killing off a bench minor for too many players, before Colby Lane sealed the victory with an empty-net goal in the final seconds. Quinten Alessio backstopped the Spartans to the win, while the Saints' Madden Stasiak faced a barrage of 43 shots in the losing effort.
