The Wolverines Hockey Academy kicked off their campaign with a thrilling 5-3 victory over the North Stars Academy Wild in a game defined by offensive surges and key penalty kills. The Wolverines came out flying in the first period, outshooting the Wild 10-1 and getting on the board early when Ezra Barnes buried a goal, assisted by Wyatt Beacham and Lucas Mcgeachy. The momentum continued in the second period as Mcgeachy returned the favor, scoring a goal from a setup by Barnes and Micah de Leon to double the lead. The Wild finally answered back when Alexandre Woodlock found the net, assisted by Remy Wattie, but the Wolverines responded almost immediately as Tanner Hanson scored his first of the night, with helpers from Abel Houle and Knox Bruno-Courtepatte, to restore the two-goal cushion heading into the final frame.
The third period saw a dramatic shift as the North Stars fought their way back into the game. Nixon Flintoff scored early to cut the deficit to one, making it a 3-2 game and putting the pressure squarely on the Wolverines. The tension escalated with penalties to both sides, but it was the Wolverines who capitalized at even strength. Grayson Finley netted the crucial game-winning goal, assisted by Knox Jeffrey-Sauder, to give his team some breathing room. However, the Wild weren't finished; on a power play shortly after, Wyatt Kolibab scored to bring the score to 4-3 and set up a frantic final five minutes. The Wolverines' defense and goaltending held firm under pressure, and Tanner Hanson iced the game with an empty-net goal in the final seconds to secure the 5-3 win.
While the shot clock told a story of Wolverine dominance—they outshot the Wild 38 to 10—the scoreboard reflected a much tighter contest thanks to the efforts of North Stars goaltender Finley Vandenberg, who faced a barrage of 40 shots. For the Wolverines, Skyler Barraclough earned the win in net, turning aside all shots he faced in a complete team effort. Key performances from the duo of Ezra Barnes and Lucas Mcgeachy, who combined for two goals and two assists, along with Tanner Hanson's two-goal night, provided the offensive firepower needed to overcome a resilient Wild squad that refused to go away quietly.
