The Spartan Hockey Academy kicked off their game against the Saints Pro Hockey Academy with relentless pressure, outshooting the visitors 11-4 in the opening period. The early offensive push paid off when Sam Potvin opened the scoring, finishing a play set up by Hendricks Collin and Daxton Flynn-Belanger. The Saints weathered two first-period penalties before Sam Matthews answered back late in the period, assisted by Carson Rath, to knot the game at 1-1 heading into the intermission.
The second period saw the Spartans seize control of the game. Just seconds after a Saints boarding penalty, Olaf Tomiuk capitalized to put the Spartans back in front, with Collin picking up his second assist of the night. Just over a minute later, Austin Krueger extended the lead, assisted by Tomiuk, making it 3-1. The Saints struggled to generate consistent offense against the Spartan forecheck, managing only 7 shots in the period as the home team carried a two-goal cushion into the final frame.
The third period began with a quick response from the Saints, as Cohen Durrand scored just 22 seconds in, assisted by Matthews, to cut the deficit to one. The game remained tight until Briggs Baraniuk delivered the decisive blow, netting the game-winning goal midway through the period off assists from Thomas Sampson and Tatem Backs. A late major penalty for checking from behind against the Saints' Mahlon Swaok sealed their fate, and Baraniuk iced the victory with an empty-net goal in the final minute, assisted by Tomiuk and Edward Coad, to secure the 5-3 win for the Spartans.
