In a tightly contested Hockey Super League battle, the South Sask Academy emerged with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Warriors Hockey Academy. Despite being outshot 27-15, South Sask’s special teams proved to be the difference-maker, capitalizing on key power-play opportunities to secure the win. The Warriors came out firing in the first period, testing South Sask goalie McKenna Gardipy early and often, but the netminder stood tall to keep the game scoreless through the opening frame.
The second period erupted with all five of the game's goals. The Warriors struck first when Meyer Rokosh, assisted by Benjamin Miller, found the back of the net. South Sask responded quickly, with Calder Crossman tying the game off a feed from Liam Adrian. The Warriors regained the lead as Declan MacLeod scored, assisted by Karter Paulgaard, making it 2-1. The turning point came as South Sask’s power play went to work. With Warriors players Kaleb Bodnar and James Grant in the box for separate infractions, South Sask’s Louie Clarke became the hero. He first scored on the man-advantage, assisted by Jack Butler and Ty Forrester, to tie the game at 2-2. Then, with Nash Reschny serving a tripping penalty, Clarke struck again, netting the game-winner with assists from Butler and Kane Schwabe.
The third period was a tense, defensive struggle punctuated by physical play and penalties. The Warriors, pressing for the equalizer, took two more minors for body checking and tripping, while South Sask’s Liam Adrian also took a body checking penalty. Despite a relentless 8-shot attack from the Warriors in the final frame, goalie McKenna Gardipy was perfect, shutting the door to preserve the one-goal lead. Gardipy’s 27-save performance was instrumental in the victory, while Louie Clarke’s two power-play goals, including the game-winner, provided the offensive spark South Sask needed to overcome a significant shot deficit and claim a crucial two points.
