The Young Kings Hockey team opened the scoring early and held on for a tense 2-1 victory over Northern HC in a game defined by strong goaltending and a crucial third-period strike. The home side set the tone just over two minutes into the contest when Hunter Lee, wearing number 16, found the back of the net. He was set up by a nice passing play from Marek Ohler and Boswell Koliaska, giving the Young Kings an immediate advantage they would nurse for most of the night. Despite outshooting Northern HC 6-2 in the first period and 11-5 in the second, the Kings couldn't extend their lead, running into a stellar performance from Northern's goalie Tate Poitras. The game grew chippy in the middle frame, with penalties to Young Kings' Lowen Tailfeathers and Nixon Undershute for an illegal check and a body check, respectively, but Northern HC couldn't capitalize on the power play opportunities.
The third period saw the intensity ratchet up as Northern HC pushed desperately for the equalizer, outshooting the Young Kings 11-11 in a frantic final twenty minutes. The insurance goal finally came for the home team at the 5:08 mark of the third, as Beckett Cochrane, number 10, buried an even-strength chance assisted by Thatcher Zaina. That goal proved to be the game-winner. Northern HC finally solved Young Kings netminder Treyton Komaromi with just 2:37 remaining, as Benson Rae scored to make it a one-goal game and set up a dramatic finish. A late penalty to Northern's Taysen Couillonneur for tripping hampered their comeback efforts, and the Young Kings locked down defensively to secure the win.
The story of the game was written in the crease. For the Young Kings, Treyton Komaromi was a wall, turning aside 17 of 18 shots to earn the win. His counterpart, Tate Poitras of Northern HC, was sensational in a losing effort, making an incredible 50 saves on 52 shots to keep his team within striking distance all night. In the end, the early goal by Hunter Lee and the timely third-period marker from Beckett Cochrane provided just enough offense for the Young Kings to claim a hard-fought two points.
