The opening frame was all Spartan Hockey Academy, as they exploded for three unanswered goals to seize early control. Colton Dobek opened the scoring just over five minutes in, followed by quick strikes from Mason Piteau and Jagger Zatzek, putting the Stars in a deep 3-0 hole by the eight-minute mark of the first period. The period was marred by penalties, with both sides taking four minors, setting a physical tone for the contest.
The Stars Hockey Academy mounted a furious comeback in the second period, completely flipping the script. Dane Swyripa got the home side on the board late in the period, and then Beckham Alexander capitalized on a power play to make it 3-2. Just over a minute later, Matix Miller completed the stunning rally, tying the game at 3-3 with assists from Alexander and Page Head. However, the Spartans answered before the period ended, as Hayden Piche restored their lead with a power-play goal of his own, sending the teams to the third with Spartan Hockey Academy up 4-3.
The final period delivered relentless drama. Just 42 seconds in, Dane Swyripa netted his second of the game on a penalty shot, knotting the score once again at 4-4. The tension escalated midway through the period with a four-penalty scrum involving Griffin O'Reilly and Dexter Dutton, among others. With the game hanging in the balance, Spartan Hockey Academy's Sawyer Tams delivered the decisive blow. On the power play with just over five minutes remaining, Tams buried the game-winner, assisted by Dobek and Damian Dolgov. The Stars pressed late but could not find another equalizer, falling just short in a wild, penalty-filled affair that showcased the firepower of both academies.
