The Spartan Hockey Academy used a relentless offensive attack and a key power-play strike to secure a decisive 6-3 victory over the Caps Hockey Club. The game opened with a flurry of activity as the Spartans jumped out to an early lead. Charlie Formenti opened the scoring just under two minutes in, and Lawson Lieske doubled the advantage shortly after. The Caps, however, responded with a quick one-two punch of their own. Nixon Ryan and Krew Kehler scored less than a minute apart, with assists from Tristan Kozuki on both, to knot the game at 2-2 before the first intermission, setting the stage for a back-and-forth battle.
The middle frame belonged to the Spartans, who regained control of the game's momentum. Cohen Codner put the home side back in front with an even-strength marker, assisted by Callum Sherban and the ever-involved Lawson Lieske. The turning point came in the final minute of the period. With the Spartans on the power play, Lawson Lieske struck again, this time with the game-winning goal, assisted by Will Mattersdorfer. Lieske’s multi-point night was a driving force, and the power-play goal gave Spartan Hockey Academy a crucial two-goal cushion heading into the final period.
Any hopes of a Caps comeback were quickly tempered in the third. Although Caleb Van Brabant brought the Caps back within one early on, Spartan Hockey Academy slammed the door shut. Beckhem Falloon took over, scoring two of the final three goals. He first restored the two-goal lead midway through the period and then capped the night with a spectacular shorthanded, empty-net goal in the final minute, assisted by Maddox Kinjo and Will Mattersdorfer. In the crease, Damon Fleischer earned the win for the Spartans, turning aside all comers to secure the victory, while Thomas O’Toole-Watt shouldered the loss for the Caps. The game was not without its physical edge, with penalties for charging, cross-checking, slashing, and roughing scattered throughout, but it was the Spartan offense that told the final story in this convincing win.
