The Spartan Hockey Academy used a strong start and a dominant third-period finish to secure a 5-2 victory over the Capital City Knights in a spirited Hockey Super League contest. The visitors set the tone early, with Stone Thomas opening the scoring midway through the first period, assisted by Jack McCarthy and Lennox Laberge. The Knights, however, battled back in the second frame. Corbin Walker tied the game on a feed from Noah Chase-Morin and Jesse Schenk, and just over eight minutes later, Oakley Topola gave the home side a 2-1 lead, converting a setup from Grant Eastman and Maverick Bigelow. The Knights' physical play, however, led to early penalties for Liam Lee and Rickson Cholak, foreshadowing the discipline issues that would later haunt them.
The game's turning point came in the third period. With Spartan's Harrison Carroll-Thomas serving a hooking minor, the Knights had a chance to extend their lead on the power play. Instead, it was the Spartans who struck shorthanded, as Lennox Laberge found the net with helpers from Reid Anderson and Wesley McAulay-Gilbart to tie the game at 2-2. The goal swung all momentum to the visitors. Laberge then took over, scoring the game-winner with just over two minutes remaining, assisted by William McNary and Stone Thomas. He completed his natural hat-trick a mere 16 seconds later, with Thomas picking up another helper, to put the game out of reach at 4-2. Benjamin Hancock sealed the deal with an empty-netter in the final minute.
While the Knights outshot the Spartans 24-23 overall and held an 11-9 edge in the final period, they could not solve the Spartan defense and goaltending down the stretch. Lennox Laberge was the undisputed star of the night, contributing a goal and an assist on the scoresheet to lead his team's offensive charge. For the Knights, the loss was a story of missed opportunities and costly penalties, as their second-period lead evaporated under a relentless Spartan counter-attack in the final frame.
