From the opening faceoff, the Spartan Hockey Academy 14M squad established a relentless pace that the Riggers Hockey Academy simply could not match. The Spartans struck first, with Rhett Bisschop finding the net early in the first period, assisted by Jack Purdy. The floodgates opened from there. Purdy himself would score the game-winner before the first period ended, with Charlie Couldwell and Sutton Ulmer picking up helpers, and Finn Inglis added another just seconds later to make it 3-0. The Spartans dominated possession, outshooting the Riggers 17-7 in the opening frame, setting the tone for a long night for Riggers' goalie Talan Rowland.
The second period was more of the same, with the Spartan attack proving unstoppable. Jack Purdy netted his second of the game, while Logan Boyd and Shea Coghill added singles. Late in the period, Hunter Evaskevich and Drew Balderston scored within 17 seconds of each other to extend the lead to a commanding 8-0. The Riggers were hampered by penalties, taking three minors in the period, and struggled to generate any sustained pressure against Spartan netminder Eli Robinson. The frustration for Riggers began to show as they took a series of infractions, including a boarding call against Max Martinig and a slashing minor for Maximus Bilodeau in the third.
Any hope of a Riggers comeback was extinguished in a third-period deluge. The Spartans scored six more times, with Drew Balderston completing a hat trick, Jack Purdy adding his third and fourth goals of the night, and Finn Inglis potting his second. The lone bright spot for the Riggers came off the stick of Shea Coghill in the second period, breaking up what would have been a shutout for Robinson. The final shot tally of 46-20 in favor of the Spartans told the story of a completely one-sided affair, as they skated to a resounding 14-1 victory built on crisp passing, relentless forechecking, and a dominant performance from top to bottom.
